Ko Lap Hang (aka Kenji Ko) is a Chinese artist. Kenji practices physical computing. He makes and displays his work digitally and electronically, experiment with parody choosing "new" media as his medium by using low-tech or open source digital technology as his main tool. Spring 2006, he pioneered digital graffiti wall and produced, DIGITI, which is a real time digital spray painting installation. It was a success that gained coverage in different medias, including: Computer Art magazine, The Fundamental of Digital Art (Richard Colson), we-make-money-not-art and a few brazilian TV channels. His pieces have been exhibited internationally in SESI Art Gallery (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Dana Centre (London, UK), British Council (London/HK) and Hong Kong Museum of Art (HK, China). In 2008, he collaborated with the British Council for their yearlong event, Celebration 60, to celebrate its 60th anniversary in Hong Kong. He was also invited to exhibit in the Hong Kong Museum of Art for their first media arts festival, Digit@logue, as well as, its “new media forum” symposium. Later on the same year, he was funded a scholarship by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council for his practice-led Masters in Digital Arts at Camberwell College of Arts. And produced his final piece, 040908/040909, which is a mixed media installation that questions the reliability and the quality of information from the traditional mass media in the 21st Century. |
